What is the Travis County Transportation Blueprint?
The Travis County Transportation Blueprint is the long-range multi-modal transportation plan for Travis County that was approved by Commissioners Court on July 16, 2019. It is a 30-year plan that identifies future transportation needs and prioritizes potential project improvements in the unincorporated area of Travis County (areas outside of a city’s limits).
How do we use it?
- Plan for future transportation projects. The Blueprint identifies and prioritizes transportation needs. Projects included in the plan still require additional planning, funding, design, environmental review, right-of-way acquisition, and other applicable steps before construction.
- Support development review. Project descriptions and general roadway alignments help the County preserve and acquire right-of-way for future arterial roadways.
- Inform transportation analysis and mitigation. The Blueprint helps determine when development may require contributions toward needed roadway infrastructure.
- Plan capital improvement projects. The Blueprint informs projects that may be funded through voter-approved bond elections, Certificates of Obligation, grants, or partnerships.
- Coordinate regional transportation planning. The Blueprint supports coordination with regional and local transportation partners, including CAMPO, TxDOT, CapMetro, CTRMA, neighboring counties, and cities.
What are Plan Amendments?
Through the life of a plan, changes are required. A Transportation Plan Amendment is the process used to formally update the County’s adopted long-range transportation plan. These are needed over time as the County grows, development patterns change, new information becomes available, or transportation priorities evolve. Amendments may include:
- Adding a proposed transportation project and alignment
- Removing a project that is no longer needed or appropriate
- Modifying an existing project or roadway alignment
- Updating a roadway classification or project scope
The County has two amendment cycles per year (Spring and Fall) when proposed plan amendments can be requested by the public, developers, and agencies.
A Plan Amendment request form can be requested by emailing: [email protected]. A staff member will review the request and provide a determination on amendment type and the cycle in which it would be considered.
